Electricity Usage Calculator

Convert appliance power and run time into kilowatt-hours (kWh). The calculation is most useful when the power input represents the device’s average draw during a realistic operating period rather than an occasional maximum. Once daily kWh is known, the same energy estimate can be scaled to a month or year and combined with your actual tariff in the electricity-cost calculator.

For devices that cycle, a plug-in energy meter can provide a more realistic average than nameplate wattage. Refrigerators, heat pumps, dehumidifiers and air conditioners may spend long periods below their rated input, while heaters and resistive loads can operate much closer to nameplate power when energized.

Frequently asked questions

What is a kWh?

A kilowatt-hour is the energy used by 1,000 watts running for one hour.

Does standby power matter?

Yes. Small standby loads can add up when they operate continuously throughout the year.

Estimates only. Actual energy use and costs vary by equipment, climate, tariffs, installation conditions and user behavior.
