Hourly energy use = watts ÷ 1,000. Hourly cost = kWh per hour × electricity price. Monthly estimates use 30.4 days.
Why actual cost can be lower
Many space heaters cycle on and off after reaching the thermostat setpoint. The calculator assumes the entered wattage is drawn continuously during the runtime you specify, so it is a useful upper-bound estimate when the heater runs at full output.
Example
At 1,500 watts, the heater draws 1.5 kWh per full-power hour. Multiply 1.5 by your utility's actual $/kWh rate to get the hourly electricity cost.
