Home Energy Savings Calculator

Estimate the annual dollar savings and simple payback of an energy-efficiency project using your own baseline consumption and expected percentage reduction.

What the calculator estimates

Annual energy saved = current annual use × expected reduction. Annual dollar savings = annual energy saved × electricity price. Simple payback = project cost ÷ annual dollar savings.

When this method is useful

This is a screening tool for comparing scenarios such as insulation, air sealing, HVAC improvements or other efficiency measures. It does not model weather, fuel switching, financing, maintenance, degradation or changes in energy prices.

Use a realistic savings percentage

The weakest input is usually the expected percentage reduction. Whenever possible, use an audit, engineering estimate, calibrated model or measured result from a comparable project rather than a generic marketing claim.

Simple payback is not the whole financial picture

Simple payback ignores financing, discount rates, maintenance, equipment life and residual value. It is useful for quick comparison but should not be treated as a full investment analysis.
