Attic Insulation Installation Cost

Reviewed by WattCostLab Editorial Team

Attic insulation cost depends on area, insulation type, target thermal resistance, access, air sealing and whether old material must be removed.

Planning note: Costs vary by location, equipment, labor, code requirements and project complexity. Use this page to compare scenarios, not as a contractor quote.

Air sealing first

Insulation performs better when major air leaks are addressed first. Penetrations around wiring, plumbing and attic hatches can otherwise bypass the insulation layer.

Installed depth matters

Comparing bids only by price per square foot can be misleading. Ask for the target installed R-value or equivalent thermal specification and whether settling is accounted for.

Removal can dominate difficult projects

Wet, contaminated or damaged existing insulation may require removal and disposal before new material is installed, adding labor and cost.
