What drives Level 2 EV charger installation cost
For many homes, the charger itself is not the main uncertainty. Cost is driven by electrical capacity, circuit amperage, distance from the panel to the parking space, conductor/conduit requirements, wall or trench work, permits and whether load management is needed.
Do you actually need the highest charging power?
The U.S. Alternative Fuels Data Center notes that many EV owners can meet daily driving needs by charging overnight, and Level 2 equipment is chosen when faster charging is useful. The best home charging power therefore depends on daily mileage, vehicle capability and the time available to charge—not simply the maximum circuit size available.
