How WattCostLab researches, writes and updates energy-cost content.
For quantitative defaults and methodological claims, we prioritize government agencies, national laboratories, standards bodies and original technical documentation, including EIA, NREL and DOE.
Where practical, calculators show the core equation and allow users to edit key assumptions. A national reference rate is not presented as the user's actual utility tariff.
Installation-cost guides focus on cost drivers, quote structure, project scope and comparison methods. We avoid presenting a single nationwide contractor price as universally applicable.
Illustrative numbers are labeled as hypothetical and explain a method rather than claim current market pricing.
Advertising, affiliate relationships and referral partnerships may support the site in the future. Sponsored or paid relationships will be disclosed and will not be presented as independent editorial recommendations.
Pages may be revised when primary datasets, tariffs, standards or methodologies change. Material errors should be corrected promptly. See the Corrections Policy.
