About WattCostLab

Reviewed by WattCostLab Editorial Team

WattCostLab helps homeowners understand home-energy costs through transparent calculators, practical guides and primary-source data.

What we do

We publish calculators and educational guides covering electricity use, solar PV, heat pumps, HVAC, EV charging, batteries, water heating and home-energy efficiency. Our goal is to make the assumptions behind an estimate visible instead of presenting a single unexplained number.

Our calculation philosophy

  • Show the core equation whenever practical.
  • Keep important assumptions editable.
  • Separate installation cost from operating cost.
  • Use local user inputs instead of pretending one national value applies everywhere.
  • Prefer primary sources such as EIA, NREL and the U.S. Department of Energy.
  • Label hypothetical examples clearly.

What WattCostLab is not

WattCostLab does not provide contractor quotes, engineering design, tax advice, legal advice or financial advice. Project decisions should be checked against local utility tariffs, building codes, incentives, equipment specifications and qualified professionals.

Independence and monetization

WattCostLab may later earn revenue from advertising, affiliate relationships or referral partnerships. Commercial relationships will not change calculator equations or source methodology. See Funding & Disclosure.
